Ernst Heissman was a soldier during the Great War. Upon returning home to Germany, he finds a world he recognizes but certainly doesn't understand. Broken and humiliated, Heissman attends a radical conservative meeting at a beer hall. The speaker and the subsequent events changes his life forever.
