An Introduction to Neuromodulators: How Does Botox Work?

Do you notice wrinkles that appear when you make certain facial expressions? Some of the most common we see are the forehead lines when raising your brows, frown lines when furrowing your brows, crow's feet or laugh lines when squinting your eyes, and even bunny lines when you scrunch up your nose.

Though a natural part of aging that occurs to everyone starting as early as their 20s, these dynamic wrinkles can present an undesired aged appearance, especially for those whose lines may develop a little more heavier than others. This, however, can be treated with a neuromodulator procedure. Also known as a wrinkle relaxer treatment, the intention is to quiet the activity of the muscles that are responsible for the formation of these lines.

Board Certified Vancouver facial plastic surgeon Dr. Buonassisi discusses neuromodulators (botulinum toxins) like Botox or Dysport and explains how they work, why treatment provider experience is so important, as well as the common and perhaps not-as-common areas of the face that they can be used to treat.
