A young woman struggles to reconcile a tragic past and an uncertain future in a city on the brink of revolt.
Shocking family news forces Madeline Wetherby to abandon her plans to marry an earl and settle for upstart Manchester merchant Nash Quinn. When she discovers that her birth father is one of the weavers her husband is putting out of work-and a radical leader-Maddie must decide which family she truly desires, the man of her heart or the people of her blood.
An earl's second son, Nash chose a life of Trade over Society. When protest marches spread across Lancashire, the pressure on him grows. If he can't make both workers and manufacturers see reason he stands to lose everything: His business, his town, and his marriage.
As Manchester simmers under the summer sun, the choices grow more stark for Maddie and Nash: Family or justice. Love or money. Life or death.

Terrific
I was very impressed with this book, the family dynamics, the love story, and the historical content. Had heard of the Peterloo Massacre but was really not familiar with the details or the context which brought them about. The story's main characters grew throughout into better people, and it was fascinating to see people you started out disliking become someone you liked very much. Intricately woven tale of love, loss, betrayal, redemption amid a time of significant political upheaval & change in England.
Needs a better proofreader
As far as the story goes, it was definitely not your traditional Regency story. There were really two different stories going on within the book: the romance story and the story of the Peterloo riot. They intertwined, but it felt a bit too forced. And while the characters were interesting, I thought the dialogue and descriptions seemed a bit too modern for the time period. However, the biggest flaw with the book was the number of typos I came across. This book definitely needed another once-over by the proofreader before being published.
I was surprised
I began reading this almost under duress as a book club selection. I am not particularly fond of romance novels. As the history, that I am quite fond of, began to weave itself into the romance, I was captured, altogether a good read.
but it is a nice easy read
This book was the pick of my book club, but I am really enjoying reading it. You don't want to stop as the night comes to a close. I admit, this is not the most exciting book I have ever read, but it is a nice easy read.
Good romance lost in details
I love historical novels but this story gets lost in details secondary to the main storyline and becomes difficult to follow. I found myself skipping over sections to pick up on areas where the main characters reappear.
