It all starts with the first form..
To illustrate the possibilities of knowledge synthesis, we will discuss the nursing care form at the entrance of a hospital complex in Porto Alegre. This schema shows part of the universe of mapped concepts related to patients in the care and diagnosis process. The complete mapped flow of information linked to patient care goes from admission to outpatient care to pre- and post-surgical neurology. Information on accessing the knowledge base can be found on the website: synthesis.clinic.
The function of the model developed by new eco is to store the behavior of the action generated by the specialist doctor's reasoning to reach a diagnosis defined through maps and, also, relate information about the patient's symptoms to those existing on the maps. Knowledge synthesis technology defines a computational model to index concepts and store diagnoses. Patient information is entered through dynamic electronic forms and directly related to each respective symptom. In this process, patient information is associated with an instance of a concept related to a map. Subsequently, the association with existing concepts in the diagnoses is checked.
The concepts in the maps do not contain values, but rather, rules to validate the patient's information and relate it to the concepts in the diagnostic maps. For example: if information is 10 years old, the age rule is between 8 and 12, in this case, the verification is considered true. The system provides lists of patients related to the concepts saved in consultations, in addition to enabling statistical analysis of the care provided and allowing the improvement of existing maps, identifying more intelligent lines of reasoning.
The proposed architecture makes it possible to create an environment for executing intelligent agents to assist in the medical diagnosis process. This environment must define access standards for the system's basic components (data layer) and interaction with users (presentation layer) with the provision of plugins. In this way, the result of the development of the CAD system is at the application layer. The knowledge base is designed in such a way that it allows integration with the database model of a hospital system. It is also important to highlight that the new eco's electronic medical record system works independently of the smart model. Its processes can be “invisible” to the user if desired.
