During a severe famine, Anansi spots a palm tree on a tiny island. After reaching it in an old boat, he climbs up to gather nuts, but they all fall into the water. In frustration, he jumps in after them and finds himself at Thunder's underwater cottage.

Thunder gifts Anansi a magical cooking pot that produces unlimited food on command. Instead of sharing with his starving family, selfish Anansi hides the pot and feasts in secret while his family wastes away. His shape-shifting son Kweku Tsin discovers the secret by turning into a fly.

When Anansi leaves, his family uses the pot. To punish her husband, Mrs. Anansi shares the pot with the entire village, but it overheats and melts away. Upon discovering his loss, Anansi returns to Thunder who gives him a stick. When Anansi tests it with the same command, the stick beats him severely, teaching him a painful lesson about his selfishness
