Anansi’s Riding-Horse

# How Anansi Made Tiger His Riding-Horse

Anansi the spider had been spreading rumors that Tiger was once his father's riding-horse, which greatly angered Tiger. Determined to end this humiliation, Tiger went to Anansi's house and demanded he come along to publicly retract his lies. Anansi, ever the trickster, pretended to be desperately ill and too weak to walk. The concerned Tiger offered to carry Anansi on his back, falling right into the spider's trap. Anansi quickly gathered a saddle, bridle, and spurs, claiming he needed them to keep from falling off in his weakened state. Once mounted on Tiger's back, Anansi drove his spurs into Tiger's sides, forcing him to run. As Tiger bolted forward, Anansi shouted victoriously to everyone who could hear, "Just like I said! Tiger was my father's riding-horse. And now he's mine too!"—cleverly turning his lie into apparent truth.
