Listen Later

In this powerful episode of Ancestral Voices We Belong, host Kim Wheatley welcomes Jessa Sky, a Métis Cree singer, keynote speaker, and advocate whose story is rooted in resilience, healing, and cultural reconnection.

Originally from Treaty 8 territory and born in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Jessa shares her journey of growing up between communities while searching for identity and belonging. Opening with the Cree greeting “Tânse” meaning hello, she reflects on how music became both an escape and a pathway toward healing.

Jessa speaks candidly about her red road healing journey, intergenerational trauma, and the personal experiences that shaped her voice and purpose. From navigating grief, loss, and mental health challenges to transforming pain into advocacy, she explains how storytelling through music and public speaking allows her to uplift Indigenous youth and communities.

The conversation explores her evolution as an independent artist and entrepreneur, writing and producing her own music, and using her platform to address important issues such as identity, healing, and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Two-Spirit people. Jessa also shares insights into her growing career, from releasing her debut album and upcoming EP Look at Us Now Volume 2 to touring, mentorship, and stepping into new opportunities on an international stage.

This episode is an honest and inspiring discussion about reclaiming voice, honouring ancestry, and discovering what it truly means to belong.
