Sam is a young boy who is scared of everything, even things other people couldn't imagine. Sam's Thunder Mountain Solution tells the tale of how Sam overcomes those fears.

At the beginning of the story, he adopts Randolph Coyote the Third, a canine whose special powers enable Sam to travel to worlds beyond this one.
