The Government's $5.5 billion surplus will have come as a surprise to almost everyone.
New figures show the surplus is $2.4 billion ahead of budget forecasts, while debt is already below the 2022 target.
Some expenses the Government was expecting in June, have been pushed out to the following year.
But JMI Wealth director Andrew Kelleher told Mike Yardley the result has come out of the blue.
"We do get these numbers updated on a fairly regular basis, there was no indication at the 11-month data that it was going to look like this."
