Andrew Page - Building Conviction Through Research

Listen Later

Andrew is the founder and managing director of Strawman.com an online investors club which shares independent share market research and recommendations between Australia’s best private investors. With 11,000 current active members it is a thriving community of investors who compete against one another based on performance and community endorsement. Andrew has worked in financial markets for over 20 years, with experience as an equity’s investor and a market commentator.

Following are some questions that he believes that not only should be thought about, but written down before any share purchase:

  • What does the business do?
  • What do I understand about it?
  • Why do I think earnings are going to grow the way I expect them to?
  • How do I ascribe value to something like this?

Write down your thoughts when you’re researching a company and you will become a much better informed investor and you’ll have much higher levels of conviction. It will mean that when share prices inevitably fall you can judge whether something is fundamentally wrong with the business or the fall is due to other factors.
