Andrew Warren, a former federal prosecutor with the United States Department of Justice, is the duly-elected State Attorney in Tampa, Florida. In August of 2022 during his second term, Warren was unlawfully suspended by Gov. Ron DeSantis for speaking out against laws criminalizing abortion and discriminating against transgender Americans. In January of 2023, a federal court found that the suspension violated the U.S. and Florida Constitutions but said it lacked the jurisdiction to reinstate him. Warren appealed the decision, and on January 10, 2024, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in his favor—affirming the Governor’s violations of federal law, and holding that the district court indeed has the authority to reinstate him.
