This afternoon (12/28/20 at YBT) we learned through the first part of the Rambam's overview of "maaseh merkavah" (metaphysics) in the Mishneh Torah which focused primarily on angels and secondarily on Hashem's knowledge. Needless to say, there was a lot we didn't understand. By definition, these are the most esoteric topics in the entire Torah. We raised several questions along the way, but we do not plan on getting bogged down in the details. We even attempted to confine ourselves to the Mishneh Torah, without making reference to the Rambam's comments about angels in the Moreh ha'Nevuchim, but this was difficult, given the minimalist treatment of these topics that the Rambam gives us here.

Note that this is a bekius chavurah - as opposed to an iyun shiur. Each session consists of us reading through the Rambam's writings together without much preparation on my part, and without going into depth by consulting commentaries or primary sources. For all these reasons, there are bound to be inaccuracies, errors, and other types of shortcomings which would not be acceptable in a prepared shiur, but are quite typical of a bekius chavurah. Please bear this in mind, and know what you're signing up for when you listen!
