The Israeli Air Force during the Arab-Israeli War was equipped with terrible WWII-surplus German fighter planes. However, the pilots that flew for Squadron 101 outmatched the Egyptian pilots and as a result defeated the Egyptians in every single engagement with a Spitfire. By 1967, Israel has the greatest Air Force in the Middle East and they used it to deadly effect during the Six-Day War.
