It's an obligation that many parents take on without even thinking about it too much. Being there for the sporting life of their kids. To cheer them on, to console them when they falter, to be their transportation, all of it despite the cost to other aspects of family life. Is it worth it?
That's what Angie Abdou asks herself in a new memoir, "Home Ice: Reflections of a Reluctant Hockey Mom." It's a unflinching and revealing account of the toll sports (especially hockey) can take on family dynamics and fortunes. Should sports change? Or should our expectations?
