Angry, Anxious, Happy: Find Out Which Zone You’re In

Listen Later

Welcome to the first episode of my podcast show! I’m John Cordray and I’m a licensed therapist and entrepreneur. I’d like to take a few moments to talk about the three Cognitive Zones and how we can get into what I call ‘The Green Zone’. Each of us experiences certain levels of emotions throughout the day. Whether we’re feeling angry, anxious, or happy, these are our Cognitive Zones. The first zone is the Red Zone. This is when our emotions become so intense that we become overwhelmed and unable to think rationally. When in this zone, we are unable to take in information and problem-solving skills become almost non-existent. The second zone is the Yellow Zone. This is when we’re feeling slightly anxious or agitated. Our emotions are still higher than normal, but we’re still able to think and problem-solve. The third and last zone is the Green Zone. This is when we’re feeling good and capable to handle daily tasks and challenges. It’s important to know when you’re in each of these zones so that you can take the necessary steps to get back in the Green Zone. If you notice that you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a few moments to take a few deep breaths and refocus your thoughts. If you’re feeling anxious, try talking with a friend or family member, or take a few minutes to yourself to relax. The good news is that we are in control of our Cognitive Zones and can take steps to get back into the Green Zone. When we’re in this zone, we’re able to think clearly, and make decisions, and problem-solving. We’re also better able to handle stressful situations and avoid feeling overwhelmed. I hope you’ve learned a little bit about the three Cognitive Zones and how we can get into the Green Zone. Remember that we are in control of our emotions and that we can take steps to get back into the Green Zone. Take a few moments to recognize when you’re in the Red or Yellow Zone and take the necessary steps to get back in the Green Zone. Thanks for joining me on my podcast show today. I hope you found this useful and that you’ll be able to put these skills into action. Until next time, take care and stay in the Green Zone! Learn more about me at johncordray.com
