Anil Cheriyadat is the Founder and CEO of Sturfee, a company creating a camera-based Visual Positioning System to enable city-scale AR for mobile apps and wearables.
After earning a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Anil spent seven and a half years as a research scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. There he worked with various types of satellite and aerial imagery to extract meaningful insights about what was happening on the ground – all around the world.
At Sturfee, he’s taking a similar approach of leveraging satellite imagery to calculate the precise position of an AR-enable device.
In this conversation, Anil shares his background, and some of the approach and impact his team had at Oak Ridge National Laboratory to understand human populations around the globe.
He reveals the unique perspective he gained from that work, and how he’s using it to enable the AR Cloud at the scale of whole cities and countries.
Anil goes on to discuss some early customer traction and the type of value those customers are getting out of Sturfee. He also talks about Google’s own Visual Positioning System, and how Sturfee stands apart.
