We reach Ohkay City after watching a "Bad Guys" short film about a funny series of calamities as they try to go to a parole office meeting. Officer Knight and his faithful canine companion Greg are combating criminals and rescuing lives when a bomb detonates, gravely wounding them both. In the operating area, a nurse explains that attaching the dog's head to the man's torso is the only method to save them both. Hastings and Pilkey are so good at establishing the silly world of this narrative that this concept almost appears feasible and rational.
