Based on the manga by Yukito Kishiro and known in Japan as Ganmu, the 1993 OVA Battle Angel Alita is a cyberpunk masterpiece.

Battle Angel tells the story of a not-too-distant future where the elite and upper classes live in a futuristic floating city, dumping their garbage on the lower classes bound to the ruined Earth below. It’s a sharp metaphor for class struggle and the value of human life that gets only more horrifying as the story goes on, but we’ll let the film take it from here.
