Seen Any Good Films Lately?

Anne-Marie Duff and Simon Bird

Listen Later

What a thrill to have these two as my guests. Not only do I love their work but they are both smart, funny people who love their culture and love to talk about it. Perfect for SAGL.

Anne Marie Duff can be seen on BBC iPlayer at the moment starring in The Salisbury Poisonings, a brilliantly gripping reconstruction drama about the Novichok incident involving Russian spies in the west country cathedral city. She’s also in a Royal Court Theatre production that evolved during lockdown called My White Best Friend.

She was full of recommendations, bursting to share her excitement about what she’s been watching including Pawel Pawlikowski films: My Summer of Love, Ida and Cold War.

Simon Bird, known for The In Betweeners and as Adam in Friday Night Dinner, well he’s a director now. And he is likely to be a very good one for a few years to come. His wistful comedy Days of the Bagnold Summer is available everywhere, including BFI Player, Curzon Home Cinema, Amazon and Sky Store. And season six of Friday Night Dinner is a must. He discusses discovering the docs of Molly Dineen.
