As we read the Word of God and pray, the Holy Spirit prompts us to action. It may not be as clear as the encounter Mary had with Gabriel, but it is God’s call to us nevertheless. We can believe God can work in and through us and surrender ourselves as God’s servants, or we can refuse and go our own way. But how much more fulfilling and exciting to join with God in His work in the world! Frightening as it may be, it’s nothing like what Mary faced. Be courageous! Receive God’s favor by believing and acting, knowing your reward is in heaven (Matthew 6:20-32). When the Spirit of God calls you to action, remember Mary’s response.
