When Scripture states that “the Spirit of God fished upon David from that day forward”, we might be tempted that David’s life suddenly became easy. Far from it! The favor and anointing from God upon a believer’s life certainly welcomes blessings, but it also attracts the hostility of human and spiritual enemies. David’s life becomes upended, and he loses far more than many believers are willing to risk as he follows God’s plan for his life. As we consider whether or not we truly hunger for God’s favor and anointing to rest upon us, we also do well to consider that it will likely eliminate any notion of having an easy life. Discipleship is costly. David becomes a bullseye for Saul, and his life takes on a dimension of danger that he could not have foreseen.
