Amongst the other countless wonders from the year 2020 (having to imagine the bottom half of people's faces, fighting others for basic toiletry items), we in the middle of the country were given the chance to experience firsthand what are called derechos, or land hurricanes. In other words, we can have all of the bad weather that they have in Florida, but without the benefit of being within almost entire-day drives to see a hint of a beach.
