Another Inhabited Planet Discovered: O.V.A.L.S.

Listen Later

Join me in the Blanch Galaxy won’t you? OVALS found another life-bearing planet. Can you believe it? Wow. Hey. It’s Day 21 of Flash Fiction February.

Soft, Red Planet found in the Blanch Galaxy.O.V.A.L.S.Observation of Life: Report# 0045: 3034

===

A report from The Objective Vantage Astronomical Laboratory Systems (OVALS) project has been transmitted regarding observed exoplanets. The robotic artificial intelligence units had been gathering data on known exoplanets for three years. This is the summary introduction for HS-008, or Lychee.

=======

Overview:

A planet called HS-008 or Lychee, with a soft, red surface, was located in the Blanch Galaxy. Named for its roiling features and the high temperatures that are concentrated there, the Blanch Galaxy is only 780 light years from Earth. The Solar System of the plump planet has 5 planets orbiting a main sequence star, which the Project Team has named Cletus. That is nearly two-thirds the mass of Sol, with Lychee being the third in distance from Cletus, and it is the sole planet in the system supporting life. The planet has strong magnetosphere protection. It has been determined that Lychee has evolved the life that has been observed there.

Background

Lychee was first observed as an anomalous pattern of radio bursts in a distant galaxy 280 years ago by Homo Sapiens Obsoletae. After hundreds of micro-bot missions from OVALS, Lychee was the 45th observed planet to contain life. This life form is categorized as a random intelligence and not an organized intelligence.

Orbit

Lychee’s orbit around Cletus is slightly elongated, off of the center of orbit by 17%. It travels at a speed of roughly 200,500 kilometers per earth-hour around its sun.

Gas

The atmosphere is comprised of a range of gases, with krypton and iodine being the dominant elements. Lychee’s gravity is tenuous, being less than three times that of Earth. With the Krypton atmosphere and the light gravitational pull, the density of mass fluctuates, as does the weight of objects. Ten kilograms on Earth today are like 3.5–4.5 kilograms on Lychee, depending on its position in its orbit.

Unique Features

The soft, red surface has a tender skin that, when punctured, produces dust. The redness is attributed to the combination of the two dominant gases and the newly observed red powdery element that has similar features to cobalt in terms of its nature and qualities.

Life Habitat

The Project Team surmises that the intelligent life on Lychee is subterranean and atmospheric. The beings that have been dubbed “Spinners” have been observed popping through the skin of the planet as projectiles, ejecting dust from the punctures, which close up within seconds. They travel roughly 250 kilometers from the surface, then spin as they descend with their tails holding their upper bodies aloft. Upon landing, they burrow back under the surface, which closes above them.

There is a series of discolored bulges around the circumference of the beings heads. These have been determined to be the sensory organs of the species. It is not clear whether the brain is located in the head of the species.

Mental Assessment

This is random intelligence. Behavior is symbiotic and not individual. Spinners show evidence that they are aware of contact but do not react. Probes have assessed that, while the species is self-aware, there is no response to individual contact.

Population

The numbers of the species are essentially constant. An estimation of 2.3 million of these creatures exist.

Mating

Mating has not been observed. There is no apparent gender. It has not been determined whether this species is parthenogenetic.

Death

Death has not been observed, although it is clear that there are slight fluctuations in population. This species is functionally symbiotic with the planet. A competitive system is not observed.

Observations of Note

* As the spinners descend from their ejections into the atmosphere, they land in essentially the spot they launched from. When they land, they often circle the area they launched from and switch entry points with others. It’s unknown why they do this.

* When the planet is at the bottom of its orbit, in the lighter gravity, the Spinners are far more assertive in their launches, and they launch at lesser intervals. They may be affected by the parabolas.
