Another Look at the Cross

Today we are taking a close look at THE main pivot point, the main icon, the primary reason for the development of Christianity ie: the cross. The Bible is a living book, its many stories are diamonds sending its sparkling waves across the field of humanity as individual shafts of light applicable to everyone personally. In other words each story can be applied to each individual life uniquely and make sense when the Holy Spirit is summoned and allowed access to those minds for His interpretation.

The cross is the most dynamic of symbols in Christiandom with people from all walks of life sporting jewelry with it on their bracelets, necklaces and ear rings. It symbolizes the manner of death our Savior endured for each of us, saving us for eternity. The cross, therefore, is revered, loved and even idolized. But, the Bible being a living book, carries many lessons for each story and the story of Jesus' desperate and horrifying journey to Golgotha is no less endowed with much to reflect upon.

Today you will hear a teaching that along with sacrificing His life for us, Jesus demonstrated what happens when we judge. There is no doubt that Jesus taught us not to judge and that if we did, we would be judged. There is no doubt He judged the Pharisees (who, by the way, were guilty of every condemnation he accused them of), but the contradiction in His teaching versus His actions is apparent. However, it is also apparent that the result of His judgement was His death on the cross. And, when He forgave them "for they knew not what they were doing," He was raised from death back to His abundant life. The teaching you will hear is entitled, "Another Look at the Cross."

Then you will hear a poem entitled, "The Cross" and finally a song that I put music to written by Joan Steward entitled, "God Reached Down." God did, indeed, reach down to each of us through His Son, Jesus Christ, to redeem us from sin by His death and blood shed. And He showed us what happens when we judge and how important it is to forgive in order to be raised back to life.
