“Another World” No. 3 ” by Rev. Toru Asai

You are Israel's teacher, and do you not understand these things? I tell you the truth, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things (John 3:10-12)?
These were the words Jesus spoke to Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews and Israel’s teacher, who was supposed to know a lot about God and the Bible—the Old Testament. The “earthly things” Jesus spoke of were such as:
… no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again (v. 3).
The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit (v. 8).
These are very spiritual things, but they are still “earthly things” according to Jesus. Then, what kind of things are “heavenly things”? They must be super-spiritual things? Wow! We must know, at least, there are such things. Even about the physical world—how this universe is made of, we are often amazed with what scientists discover. Then, if we really come to see the reality of the spiritual or super-spiritual world, how much more will we be amazed with such reality? Let us be humble as we study these things from the Bible, otherwise we would be like Nicodemus who thought he knew, but did not know at all. We will use the Bible as our textbook, and try to see what is going on in “another world.”
God is spirit, and lives in the spiritual world. There are other beings who also live in the spiritual world. They are angels. If we are asked, “What is a spiritual world?” the only thing we can say for sure is that it is another world different from the physical world we live in. We know the existence of the angels because the Bible speaks about them. However, the descriptions about the angels are very scanty in the Bible, and do not give us much information. They appear in visions and dreams, and sometimes they can be seen with the physical eyes. What are they, and what is their task? What are they doing when not appearing to us?
With these questions in mind, we will search the Bible. You will be surprised to find that the Bible in fact talks a lot about angels—more than you expect. Their existence is usually hidden from the surface of the books, but with your spiritual eyes, you can see it between the verses and paragraphs. So, use your biblical imagination and have fun. The Holy Spirit will help you see the things of the hidden world.
First, let us pay attention to the following words of Jesus:
See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven (Mat 18:10).
In the mindset of grown-ups, little children are of little value. Yet, Jesus bases the worthiness of little children on the fact that their angels in heaven always see the face of the Father in heaven. These angels are sent by the Father to these precious children for the purposes of protection, instruction and guidance. Do we know this?
