Anthony Fauci clarifies that Black, White and Yellow fungus is not racist classification
Top infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci has clarified to the US Senate at a closed-door hearing that the black, white and yellow fungus being found in India is not a race issue and has to be treated differently due to the different pathological implications. He also did not rule out the fact that these post COVID complications could arise in the US as well and that they needed to be prepared against it.
Mucormycosis or Black Fungus is a very rare infection. It is caused by exposure to mucor mould which is commonly found in soil, plants, manure, and decaying fruits and vegetables. It affects the sinuses, the brain and the lungs and can be life-threatening in diabetic or severely immunocompromised individuals, such as cancer patients or people with HIV/AIDS.
White Fungus infection is caused due to fungi moulds present in the environment. The disease isn’t contagious, but a person is said to be vulnerable to the infection since these moulds can be easily inhaled by a patient. After inhalation, the moulds can spread to vital organs and cause complications thereafter. White Fungus infection affects the lungs as well as other parts of the body including nails, skin, stomach, kidney, brain, private parts and the mouth. White fungus is curable with commonly available medicines and does not need expensive injections unlike in the case of mucormycosis, nor is it as deadly
The newly discovered Yellow Fungus infection, much like other fungal infection spreads via contaminated environments, or when a suspected patient inhales moulds (mycometes) which grow in the environment.
What makes this infection different from white and black fungus infection is the manner of its spread. While black fungus starts with distinct facial disfiguration, the yellow fungus infection starts to cause symptoms by launching an attack on the body’s internal organs and disturbing vital bodily processes.
It is important to note that none of these infections is contagious and the best way to prevent getting infected is to maintain hygiene, cleanliness and basic sanitization protocol.
