Aug. 31, 2024 ~ Dr. Mary Sue Coleman was born in Kentucky and grew up in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Grinnell College and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Biochemistry from the University of North Carolina. From 2002 to 2014, she served as the 13th president of the University of Michigan and was its first woman president. In 2009, Time magazine ranked her as one of the Ten Best American University Presidents, citing her success in fundraising and emphasis on research.
