AOC smears Charlie Kirk in House speech

Listen Later

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) delivered a fiery speech on the House floor opposing a resolution honoring conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was recently assassinated during a speaking event. While she condemned the killing as “horrific and vile,” she argued that the resolution was politically motivated and deeply painful to communities affected by racism and bigotry.

In her remarks, AOC described Kirk’s rhetoric as “ignorant, uneducated,” and accused him of promoting views that sought to disenfranchise millions of Americans. She cited controversial statements he made about the Civil Rights Act, Jewish influence in media, and affirmative action, painting a picture of a man whose legacy, in her view, conflicted with the resolution’s portrayal of him as a unifying figure.

The resolution, introduced by House Republicans, aimed to honor Kirk’s life, condemn political violence, and call for national unity. It passed with bipartisan support, though 58 Democrats—including Ocasio-Cortez—voted against it.
