AOC’s List, Nancy’s Team, and the case for Capitalism

Listen Later

As we wrap a week of house hearings, Korean negotiations falling apart, and socialism run amuck, let us not miss the behind the scenes news. Front Porch Politics will take a look at why Democrats are self-destructing, and conservatives need to awaken to a new fight for America.

After more than two dozen moderate Democrats broke from their party’s progressive wing and sided with Republicans on a legislative amendment Wednesday, New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reportedly sounded the alarm in a closed-door meeting Thursday and said those Democrats were “putting themselves on a list.”

What caused this?

The legislation that prompted the infighting was a bill that would expand federal background checks for gun purchases. A key provision requiring U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to be notified if illegal immigrants attempt to purchase guns saw 26 moderate Democrats side with Republicans.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi scolded her wayward center-leaning colleagues, telling them: “We are either a team or we’re not, and we have to make that decision.”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s List

Ocasio-Cortez reportedly took it a step further. She said she would help progressive activists unseat those moderates in their districts in the 2020 elections. AOC also has shown support for illegals who purchase guns to have no background checks or submit the information any citizen would have to do.

Representative Ocasio-Cortez has vehemently denounced ICE since bursting onto the political stage — but has also raised concerns among fellow Democrats that she’s picking fights with her own party.

Socialist are Hurting their own Party.

The Socialist movement is losing steam. According to a Wall Street Journal poll, the number of American’s who support Medicare for all has drastically fallen. In the poll, Medicare for all had support in November 2018 of 30%. Those polled in February 2019 only 12% supported the measure.

Why the Decline?

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s sweeping “Green New Deal” could end up costing close to $93 trillion, or about $600,000 per household, according to a new study released by an advocacy group.

In an analysis published on Monday, the American Action Forum — which is headed by a former director of the Congressional Budget Office, Douglas Holtz-Eakin — estimated that the New York Democrat’s policy proposal could end up costing somewhere around $93 trillion over the course of the next decade.

American’s are not stupid

Despite what AOC thinks, most American’s with common sense see right through her bad economic policies. Americans have learned that the way to achieve success is hard work, not government handouts. Let us please remember that AOC only received 110,318 votes. That is .03% of the United States population. However, she touts herself as the queen. Remember she stated, “I’m the boss – how about that?”
