Only a minority of patients with treatable aortic stenosis are being detected in primary care, meaning that many patients are needlessly experiencing symptoms and potential health risks associated with this valvular condition. Now that we have ready access to a definitive and effective treatment for aortic sclerosis, in the form of the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), GPs are being encouraged to 'auscultate and investigate' every adult patient to make the diagnosis.
