Kimberly DeCarrera of DeCarrera Law says she can happily talk for hours about unclaimed property. She didn’t do that on this episode of the AP Now podcast because she knew we had time restraints. But she did make the most of our time together squeezing in tips and strategies for listeners right to the last minute of our broadcast.

DeCarrera joined the podcast to discuss a particular instance of unclaimed property fraud. She then expanded on this episode to explain what unclaimed property is, some of the due diligence requirements and what companies can do to return property to its rightful owners instead of remitting it to the state.

At the close, she shared practical advice every company should be using to ensure there is no game playing with their unclaimed property. She closed the session by noting the states wee expanding their audits going after companies of every size. She urged listeners to make sure they are in compliance with all unclaimed property (escheat) regulations.
