Joining the AP Now podcast from down under, Sandra Firman shared with Mary Schaeffer her thoughts on making sure AP technology promotes the right behavior. Originally from New Zealand, Sandra now makes her home in Melbourne. She was just getting to work on a Friday morning when she got on the call, which was late Thursday afternoon in the States.

She began by addressing the question of “Who’s the Boss?” She expounded on her theory that technology, if it is really helpful should be our servant. She has seen too many instances when the technology becomes the master as end users attempt to make it work. She then moved onto discuss an issue near and dear to the hearts of anyone who works in or manages the accounts payable function: Invoices. Too often, invoices create huge headaches for the organizations receiving them.

She then moved on to discuss an issue many chose to ignore: Authorizations and coding. Technology, if used correctly, can help with both of those responsibilities. She also addresses the nightmare many deal with, the issue of getting invoices approved and processed in a timely manner. Sandra is full of useful insights and we hope she wll return to share more of them with our audience.
