In this last episode for 2019, Mary Schaeffer discusses the changing business environment and shares three goals to help everyone be successful in the new and changing atmosphere. She begins by sharing some statistics that reveal there will be significant job loss due to AI but at the same time there will be an even larger creation of new jobs. The trick, she notes, is how to make sure you are one of the winners who snags one of those newly created positions.
She says that business professionals must take responsibility for their own destiny and not wait for their companies to reskill or upskill them. She offers three tips on how to do that. Begin by learning all you can about the new technology infiltrating accounts payable and accounting departments. She’s not talking about learning how to code but about understanding what the new technology is and how it will impact the function. She offers a handful of free resources everyone can use.
She then challenges listeners to stop hiding all their talents under a bushel and do some public speaking. Understanding that this is difficult for many, she shares some strategies everyone can use to make the process less stressful. She has a number of ways to start small. And lastly, she challenges the group to grow their network by six people next year. Again she offers some simple ways to do this.
