Apple's Waiting Game: The Patient Approach to AI Innovation at WWDC 2025

Listen Later

Hello and welcome to Tech Update. Apple’s WWDC 2025 came and went with surprisingly little AI fanfare. While Google strutted out new Gemini features and video generation tools at I/O, Apple unveiled an AI health coach, Visual Intelligence to analyze your screen, and Genmoji. Any promise of an AI-supercharged Siri went missing. In a Wall Street Journal interview, Apple’s Craig Federighi admitted, “We want to do this the right way,” adding that they need to have “it very much in hand before we start talking about dates for obvious reasons.”

Despite investor jitters that sent Apple stock dipping, most consumers still care more about cameras, sleeker designs, and green bubbles in Messages than about smart chatbots. As Federighi put it, “this wasn’t about just building a chatbot. That was never the goal.” Apple’s strength has always been polishing ideas rather than rushing them. So while AI may shape the next wave of iPhones, Apple’s patient approach could mean the features they do release are ones people actually use.
