Chances are you heard growing up, “Always remember to say thank you.” I know for me that sentence echoes from my childhood. I remember my parents making me say thank-you to my Aunt and Uncle when they got me a Peanuts Cartoon Colouring Book. To me, it wasn’t really a big deal…I mean it was just a colouring book and they did get my little brother one as well, so I didn’t really feel like they deserved such gratitude.

But now, as a parent, I find myself saying this phrase all of the time (just ask my son!). Sure, there’s an element of being courteous and polite but I also believe that saying thank you, or showing appreciation to the people we are in relationships with, goes beyond social courtesies. In fact, I’m learning it can have a profound impact in our relationships. This Sunday, I want to talk about why my Aunt and Uncle did deserve to be thanked and how this simple act can increase our love and connection to others.
