Welcome to Episode Number 4  a part of series number 1 all about apps that I use everyday. Today on the podcast, I will talk about one of my favorite apps.  But first, here is a little tech news for you. Tech News: Google Maps will now alert you when it’s time to get off the bus or subway https://www.theverge.com/2017/12/15/16763340/google-maps-train-bus-stop-transfer-alerts Google Maps has added a new feature. Now, when you use Google Maps for bus or subway directions, the app will alert you when you need to get off the bus or subway. These push notifications will help if you doze off or become engrossed in your book or music. It will also be a very helpful feature for people with cognitive impairments. App: Audible by Audible Inc. Audible is an Amazon product and is available for iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, Kindle Fire and web platforms. Audible allows you to purchase and download audiobooks to listen to. Audible has high quality audiobooks and has a large variety. Audible is similar to the Kindle app in that you have to purchase the audiobooks from www.audible.com or www.amazon.com. You cannot buy the audiobooks directly from the app. When you open the app, you will see a button that will show your library. Within the library, you can choose “Device”or “Cloud”. If you choose “Device”, you will only see the audiobooks that you have downloaded onto your device. If you choose “Cloud”, you will see all the audiobooks you have purchased. To list only what you have downloaded, go to the Library and click on Device. This helps if you have multiple members of your family using the account. Sign up for Audible through this link: Audible Free Trial You will get a free trial w two free books! We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. Tech Tip: Parental Controls: How to Lock Down Kids’ iOS Devices By David Matthews for TechSpot https://www.techspot.com/article/1483-iphone-parental-controls/ Under Settings > General > Restrictions, you can place controls on almost every aspect of the device You can allow/disallow Safari, FaceTime, Camera, and even Siri You are also able to allow or disallow downloading app or other media depending on the rating AND prevent them from deleting apps. If you allow Safari (the web browser on the iPhone and iPad), you can restrict types of websites or allow only certain websites. David also discusses the app OurPact. This is a subscription app that puts even more controls on your child’s iPhone, iPad, Android phone or tablet. See the article for more info. Thanks for listening to Your App Lady today!
