Christian Prayer:
Morning Prayer for Tuesday of the 5th week of Lent
God, come to my assistance.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
HYMN
The beauty of the rising sun
Lord Jesus Christ, you far surpass
You are God's knowledge infinite,
Give us your light that like true sons
Let every word our lips may say
To you, O Christ, most kindly King,
PSALMODY
Ant. 1 The man whose deeds are blameless and whose heart is pure will climb the mountain of the Lord.
Psalm 24
The Lord’s is the earth and its fullness,
Who shall climb the mountain of the Lord?
He shall receive blessings from the Lord
O gates, lift high your heads;
Who is the king of glory?
O gates, lift high your heads;
Who is he, the king of glory?
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Psalm-prayer
King of glory, Lord of power and might, cleanse our hearts from all sin, preserve the innocence of our hands, and keep our minds from vanity, so that we may deserve your blessing in your holy place.
Ant. The man whose deeds are blameless and whose heart is pure will climb the mountain of the Lord.
Ant. 2 Praise the eternal King in all your deeds.
Canticle – Tobit 13:1-8
Blessed be God who lives forever,
For he scourges and then has mercy;
Praise him, you Israelites, before the Gentiles,
Exalt him before every living being,
He scourged you for your iniquities,
When you turn back to him with all your heart,
So now consider what he has done for you,
In the land of my exile I praise him,
“As for me, I exalt my God,
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Ant. Praise the eternal King in all your deeds.
Ant. 3 The loyal heart must praise the Lord.
Psalm 33
Ring out your joy to the Lord, O you just;
Give thanks to the Lord upon the harp,
For the word of the Lord is faithful
By his word the heavens were made,
Let all the earth fear the Lord
He frustrates the designs of the nations,
They are happy, whose God is the Lord,
From the place where he dwells he gazes
A king is not saved by his army,
The Lord looks on those who revere him,
Our soul is waiting for the Lord.
May your love be upon us, O Lord,
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Psalm-prayer
Nourish your people, Lord, for we hunger for your word. Rescue us from the death of sin and fill us with your mercy, that we may share your presence and the joys of all your saints.
Ant. The loyal heart must praise the Lord.
READING Zechariah 12:10-11a
I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and petition; and they shall look on him whom they have thrust through, and they shall mourn for him as one mourns for an only son, and they shall grieve over him as one grieves over a first-born. On that day the mourning in Jerusalem shall be great.
Sacred Silence(indicated by a bell) – a moment to reflect and receive in our hearts the full resonance of the voice of the Holy Spirit and to unite our personal prayer more closely with the word of God and public voice of the Church.
RESPONSORY
God himself will set me free, from the hunter’s snare.
From those who would trap me with lying words
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH
Ant. When you have lifted up the Son of Man, says the Lord, you will know that I am he.
Luke 1:68 – 79
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
Through his holy prophets he promised of old
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High;
In the tender compassion of our God
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
Ant. When you have lifted up the Son of Man, says the Lord, you will know that I am he.

Lord, feed us at the banquet of the eucharist,
Give us a perfect heart to receive your word,
Make us eager to work with you in building a better world,
We confess, Lord, that we have sinned,
Our Father who art in heaven,
Concluding Prayer
Grant us,
DISMISSAL
May the Lord bless us,
