Christian Prayer:
Evening Prayer for Tuesday in Week 2 of Easter
God, come to my assistance.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
HYMN
Chorus:
The Lord is my shepherd;
Chorus:
Beside restful waters He leads me;
Chorus:
You spread the table before me
Chorus:
PSALMODY
Ant. 1 Seek the things of heaven, not those that are on the earth, alleluia.
Psalm 49
I
Hear this, all you peoples,
My lips will speak words of wisdom.
Why should I fear in evil days
For no man can buy his own ransom,
He knows that wise men and fools must both perish
In his riches, man lacks wisdom;
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Ant. Seek the things of heaven, not those that are on the earth, alleluia.
Ant. 2 The Lord has rescued my life from the power of hell, alleluia.
II
This is the lot of those who trust in themselves,
With the morning their outward show vanishes
Then do not fear when a man grows rich,
Though he flattered himself while he lived:
In his riches, man lacks wisdom;
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Psalm-prayer
You condemned the rich, Lord Jesus, because they have already received their reward, and you proclaimed the poor blessed because the kingdom of heaven is theirs. Teach us to seek for imperishable goods and to have confidence in your blood, poured out as the price of our redemption.
Ant. The Lord has rescued my life from the power of hell, alleluia.
Ant. 3 Yours, O Lord, is majesty and power, glory and triumph, alleluia.
Canticle β Revelation 4:11; 5:9, 10, 12
O Lord our God, you are worthy
For you have created all things;
Worthy are you, O Lord,
For you were slain;
You made of them a kingdom,
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Ant. Yours, O Lord, is majesty and power, glory and triumph, alleluia.
READING 1 Peter 2:4-5
Come to the Lord, a living stone, rejected by men but approved, nonetheless, and precious in Godβs eyes. You too are living stones, built as an edifice of spirit, into a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Sacred Silence (indicated by a bell) β a moment to reflect and receive in our hearts the full resonance of the voice of the Holy Spirit and to unite our personal prayer more closely with the word of God and public voice of the Church.
RESPONSORY
The disciples rejoiced, alleluia, alleluia.
When they saw the risen Lord,
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
CANTICLE OF MARY
Ant. Did not our hearts burn within us as Jesus talked to us on the road? alleluia.
Luke 1:46-55
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
He has mercy on those who fear him
He has shown the strength of his arm,
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
He has filled the hungry with good things,
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
Ant. Did not our hearts burn within us as Jesus talked to us on the road? alleluia.
INTERCESSIONS
By his resurrection Christ has given sure hope to his people. Let us ask him with our whole hearts:
Lord Jesus, from your wounded side flowed blood and water,
Chief shepherd, after your resurrection you made Peter shepherd of your flock when he professed his love for you,
You showed your disciples how to make a great catch of fish,
At the lakeside you prepared bread and fish for your disciples,
Jesus, the new Adam and life-giving spirit, transform the dead into your own likeness,
Our Father who art in heaven,
Concluding Prayer
Enable us,

May the Lord bless us,
