Christian Prayer:
Evening Prayer for Wednesday in Week 2 of Easter
God, come to my assistance.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
HYMN
1 I sing the mighty power of God,
2 I sing the goodness of the Lord,
3 There's not a plant or flower below
PSALMODY
Ant. 1 Do not let your hearts be troubled; have faith in me, alleluia.
Psalm 62
In God alone is my soul at rest;
How long will you all attack one man
Their plan is only to destroy:
In God alone be at rest, my soul;
In God is my safety and glory,
Common folk are only a breath,
Do not put your trust in oppression
For God has said only one thing:
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Psalm-prayer
Lord God, you reward each one according to his works. Hear us as we pour out our hearts to you seeking your grace and secure protection. We look to you for our stable hope in a constantly, changing world.
Ant. Do not let your hearts be troubled; have faith in me, alleluia.
Ant. 2 Let the peoples praise you, Lord God; let them rejoice in your salvation, alleluia.
Psalm 67
O God, be gracious and bless us
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
Let the nations be glad and exult
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
The earth has yielded its fruit
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Psalm-prayer
Be gracious and bless us, Lord, and let your face shed its light on us, so that we can make you known with reverence: and bring forth a harvest of justice.
Ant. Let the peoples praise you, Lord God; let them rejoice in your salvation, alleluia.
Ant. 3 His glory covers the heavens and his praise fills the earth, alleluia.
Canticle β Colossians 1:12-20
Let us give thanks to the Father
He rescued us
He is the image of the invisible God,
All were created through him;
It is he who is head of the body, the church!
It pleased God to make absolute fullness reside in him
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Ant. His glory covers the heavens and his praise fills the earth, alleluia.
READING Hebrews 7:24-27
Jesus, because he remains forever, has a priesthood that does not pass away. Therefore he is always able to save those who approach God through him, since he forever lives to make intercession for them. It was fitting that we should have such a high priest: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, higher than the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he has no need to offer sacrifice day after day, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; he did that once for all when he offered himself.
Sacred Silence (indicated by a bell) β a moment to reflect and receive in our hearts the full resonance of the voice of the Holy Spirit and to unite our personal prayer more closely with the word of God and public voice of the Church.
RESPONSORY
The disciples rejoiced, alleluia, alleluia.
When they saw the risen Lord,
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
CANTICLE OF MARY
Ant. The man of God welcomes the light that searches his deeds and finds them true, alleluia.
Luke 1:46-55
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
He has mercy on those who fear him
He has shown the strength of his arm,
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
He has filled the hungry with good things,
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
Ant. The man of God welcomes the light that searches his deeds and finds them true, alleluia.
INTERCESSIONS
In his Son, risen from the dead, God has opened for us the way to everlasting life. Let us ask the Father:
God of our fathers, you raised your Son Jesus from the dead and clothed him in glory; move our hearts to complete repentance,
You have led us back to the shepherd and bishop of our souls,
You chose the firstfruits of Christβs disciples from the Jewish people,
Remember the lonely, the orphaned and the widowed,
You called Stephen to your presence when he bore witness to Jesus, standing at your right hand,
Our Father who art in heaven,
Concluding Prayer
As we recall
