“Whoever despises the word brings destruction on himself, but he who reveres the commandment will be rewarded. The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death.” — Proverbs 13:13-14
“The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God... And a voice came from heaven, ‘You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.’” — Mark 1:1, 11

Have you ever been thirsty after a long run or a hot day, and that first sip of water just hits different? That’s what Proverbs 13:14 is getting at—God’s wisdom is like a “fountain of life.” It refreshes, it satisfies, and it keeps you from going down dangerous paths. But here’s the thing: just like ignoring your thirst leads to exhaustion, ignoring God’s truth leads to spiritual burnout.
In Mark 1, we get introduced to Jesus in a powerful way. From John the Baptist prepping the way, to Jesus being baptized, to Him healing the sick and casting out demons—everything shows that Jesus came to bring real change and new life. Notice that when Jesus was baptized, God declared, “You are my beloved Son.” Before Jesus performed a single miracle, He was already fully loved and accepted by the Father. That’s huge. It means our identity is rooted in God’s love first, not in what we do.
Jesus invites us into a new way of living—one where we follow His Word (like Proverbs says), experience deep purpose, and overflow with living water to others. But we’ve got to take that first step: listen to God’s voice, trust His Word, and let Him lead.

THINK ABOUT IT
BOTTOM LINE
God’s wisdom brings life. In Jesus, we find a new identity rooted in love—not performance. His Word refreshes and transforms us from the inside out.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me before I could do anything to earn it. Help me to take Your Word seriously and trust that it leads to life. Teach me to follow Jesus with my whole heart and to remember that my identity is secure in Your love. Let Your truth refresh me like living water today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
