Welcome back to We Wonder: Lent. This is the fifth week of Lent: the last week before Holy Week. This is when Lent can start to seem really, really long, but the end is in sight. With Jesus, we are drawing near to his entry into Jerusalem and to the cross.

Scripture Passage: John 10:11-18

I wonder how I am like one of the sheep in this story? I wonder what it is like to hear Jesus’ words like a hungry sheep, who has been waiting all night to be led out to good pastures, and food?

I wonder if I can believe that Jesus knows me, like a shepherd knows his sheep? I wonder if I can trust that Jesus will guide me well, because he knows all of who I am and what I need?

I wonder, when Jesus told this story, if Jesus’ friends remembered that God had promised to be the shepherd of his people? I wonder if I can believe that Jesus is the one who is God, doing God’s work to protect and guide his people?

I wonder why Jesus said that he would give up his life. I wonder how much he must love us, to lay down his life to protect us, like a shepherd who is keeping his sheep safe?

It is almost Palm Sunday. Next week, we will follow Jesus through Jerusalem and to the cross. I wonder if I can trust my Good Shepherd, even when the path he walks feels dangerous or scary? I wonder if I can believe he will deliver me safely through to the other side?
