April 2 – Ephesians 1:3

Ephesians 1:3

If there is one word that we use more than any other I suppose it’s the word “blessing.” When we’re at prayer meeting, we pray, “Oh God bless the meeting and bless the preacher and bless the missionaries and give us a blessing.” We use that word “bless” or the word “blessing” over and over again. Well, Paul uses it three times in Ephesians 1:3. This is what he says “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in the heavenlies in Christ,” (paraphrase). Let’s look at our riches in the Lord Jesus Christ. First of all, these blessings that God has given to us in Jesus Christ are the blessings of the Spirit. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings.” All the blessings of the Holy Spirit. He has not promised to make us all rich physically or materially.

Oh there are those who tell us that, that if you are in the will of God you will never be sick, you will never have an accident. If you are in the will of God, you will be wealthy. Well, that’s not what Paul says. Paul says we’ve been blessed in the inner person with the blessings of the Holy Spirit. They are spiritual, not material. They are heavenly blessings. He has blessed us with all, A-L-L, spiritual blessings in the heavenlies. That means in contradistinction to the earthlies. We as Christians live on earth because we live in heaven. Our citizenship is in heaven. Our Father is in heaven. Our Savior is in heaven. Our home is in heaven. Our names are written down in heaven and our hope is in heaven. These are heavenly blessings through the Holy Spirit, and they are permanent. They cannot be taken from us. He has blessed us.

It’s been done, it’s settled, it’s over with and we can come and appropriate every blessing that we need from the Lord Jesus Christ. Now He doesn’t say if you are good I will bless you. What He’s saying is, “If you trust Me, if you do My will, then you can appropriate, appreciate and apply these blessings in your own life.” Yes, you and I are rich in the Lord Jesus Christ. If you know Jesus Christ as your own personal Savior, you are rich. He has given to you every spiritual blessing that you will ever need.
