April 20 – Ephesians 3:8-12

Ephesians 3:8-12

“Unto me, who am less than the least of all the saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;” Paul wrote those words in Ephesians 3:8. And they give to us the secret of a great life and a great ministry. First of all, there is the wonder of the messenger, “Unto me.” “Unto me, who am the least of all saints is this grace given.” We stop to think of what Paul was before he was a Christian. He was an up and coming leader in his own religious belief. He was one of the finest young men that they had. He was zealous, he was a legalist, he was a Pharisee of the Pharisees, he was willing to work hard to promote what he believed and yet he was lost. He was undone. He was on the wrong road and the Lord saved him.

The wonder of the messenger and the wonder of the message. “Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints is this grace given that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ.” The riches of Christ that are so great we can’t track them down. We can’t keep a book on them. You can’t put them into your computer. There’s no way to take inventory of them. They are unsearchable. They’re unbelievable, but they are not unavailable. They are available to all who will trust Him. The wonder of the message. The message of Christ. The riches of Christ. Jesus who became poor that we might be made rich. Then there’s the wonder of the ministry that God gave to him. To help all men see what God is doing. What is God doing? God is fulfilling His eternal purpose. He is building His Church, verse 11 of Ephesians 3.

“According to the eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” To me this is a marvelous thing that the apostle Paul with all the privileges he had, all the work he did stayed humble. He didn’t say, “Unto me who am the greatest of the apostles.” No. “Unto me who am less than the least of all saints.” It’s a wonderful thing when your ministry and your Christian life will humble you and bring glory to the Lord.
