In the Middle East
The United Nations says Israeli strikes on Lebanon and Hezbollah rocket fire into Israel during the latest escalation may amount to serious violations of international humanitarian law. The warning comes as the ceasefire has been extended, which is a useful development, given the alternative.
Separately, NBC News reports that Iranian strikes on U.S. military bases and equipment in the Persian Gulf region caused far more damage than publicly acknowledged, with repairs expected to run into the billions. The reported hits spread across sites in seven Middle East countries and damaged warehouses, command centers, aircraft hangars, runways, radar systems, and dozens of aircraft.

Authorities in Florida have charged a roommate in the deaths of two University of South Florida doctoral students after one set of human remains was identified and the search for the second student continued. Investigators say the case is still active and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
In Florida politics, Gov. Ron DeSantis has escalated his fight with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries over the state’s redistricting push, daring him to “bring it on” after Jeffries warned Republicans. Just a normal, calm discussion about democracy.

Police in Wolverhampton say a woman in her thirties has been arrested after a house fire on Mason Street killed two boys, aged one and three. Detectives and fire investigators are still working to establish how the blaze started, while the family is being supported by specialist officers.
In business and tech
Meta and Microsoft are cutting large numbers of jobs even as they keep pouring money into artificial intelligence. It is the latest reminder that the tech industry can find infinite capital for AI and still act shocked by payroll.
Meanwhile, former startups are reportedly selling Slack archives, emails, and code from defunct companies to AI training firms. The data can include identifiable employees and, if anonymization fails, real organizations too, which is not exactly a comfort to the people who thought those messages died with the company.
