April 25, 2026 — Today is National Hug a Plumber Day, which is one of those things you don’t think about until you really need one.
Today we’re looking at a few moments where systems were created to bring order, solve problems, or make things more consistent.
First, the groundbreaking of the Suez Canal in 1859 — a project that reshaped global travel and trade.
Then, the first use of the guillotine in 1792 — introduced as a more humane method of execution, but remembered very differently.
And finally, the introduction of license plates in 1901 — a simple idea that brought order to a growing system.
Plus, a look at Al Pacino, whose presence and delivery have defined generations of performances.
It raises a question about how often something designed to solve a problem ends up becoming something else entirely.
Anyway… that’s what I ended up finding while working through April 25.
