April 27 – Ephesians 4:4-6

Ephesians 4:4-6

If today you want to have a difficult time getting along with people, start emphasizing where you disagree. Just about everybody you meet is going to disagree with you on something. But if you want to have a good day, start emphasizing where you agree. You see among Christians there is a oneness that comes from the Lord. At least that’s what I read in Ephesians 4:4-6. “There is one body,” Now it doesn’t say there ought to be one body. It says “There is one body.” It doesn’t say there is one church organization. There is one world denomination. No, it says there’s one body. A body’s a living thing. This is the body of the Lord Jesus Christ, His Church of which He alone is the head. So there is one body. Therefore today I should realize that every other Christian truly born again belongs to that one body along with me. There is one body. Not just my church.

There is one Spirit. Not just my experience of the Holy Spirit. There is one hope of our calling. Notice Ephesians 4:4, “even as you are called in one hope of your calling.” There is one hope not just my views of prophesy. There is one Lord. There is one faith, not just my interpretations of the Word. There is one baptism which I take to be the baptism of the Spirit of God when a person is born again. There is one God and Father of all; not just a spiritual elite. Some folks have the idea they are the only ones in the body. They are the only ones who have the Holy Spirit. They are the only ones who understand the future. They are the only ones who have the true faith. “There’s one God and Father of all who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”

Four times he says all. He’s saying to us God has His family, He has His body, He has His Church in this world; now we belong to each other and we affect each other and we need each other and we minister to each other. Yes, yes, we can disagree. Yes, we do have our different interpretations but yes, we do belong to the Lord and to each other. Therefore let’s emphasize our unity not our disagreements.
