This Posh Fabric Has A Rough Past! Welcome to April 3, 2023 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate smooth chocolate and fabric with a rough side. Mousse au chocolat! We’re talking French, baby: smooth. It’s no wonder this creamy sensation has rocked our sweet-tooth since the 18th century, when “Marie Antoinette hairdos” and men in puffy shirts were a la mode. What’s amazing is how long chocolate mousse has tickled our fancy, but then again - it’s chocolate! In bittersweet, milk or white - this dessert is a perennial favorite. On National Chocolate Mousse Day savor the Parisian flavor of decadence that never goes out of style. National Tweed Day is its own doppelganger; some think it’s a celebration of the fabric while others point to the notorious crooked politician William “Boss” Tweed who was born on April 3rd. Heck, for all we know Boss Tweed probably wore tweed! “Boss” Tweed was a US Senator who died in jail in 1878 after being caught stealing millions in taxpayer money. Tweed the fabric originated in Scotland as a sturdy fabric for farmers and by 1848 was adopted by the elite and the royals. The fabric’s name is thought to be a mistake where a London merchant mistook the name tweel (Scottish for twill) as “tweed” (a Scottish river that flows through the textile district) and the name stuck. Either way, celebrate National Tweed Day with your own distinct style! I’m Anna Devere and I’m John McClain filling in for Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day.
