Dr. Michael Beasley is a pediatric sports medicine specialist with a focus on sports injury prevention and overuse injuries at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Young athletes who focus on a single sport are at higher risk of overuse injuries, mostly because their bones and muscles are still growing, putting strain on the growth plates. Pediatric sports specialists recognize that some sports require early specialization but generally recommend a multi-sport approach to build diverse athletic skills and avoid injury and burnout.
