It’s Thursday, and another sign of spring is the return of the seasonal help wanted ads. They’re always the same: Hotels need housecleaners, restaurants need servers and kitchen staff. Summer can’t begin without them.

Everyone feels the urgency. Just yesterday, a pair of Barred Owls stationed themselves deep in the woods and called, “Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you-all?” back and forth to each other. Listen now.
