Ephesians 1:11-12

I seriously doubt that I am in anybody’s will and I’m not complaining about it. It doesn’t bother me too much because I have already obtained a marvelous inheritance from the King of kings and the Lord of lords. An inheritance that can never fade away; it can never lose its value. No one can steal it from me. If you’re a Christian, you are a part of this same inheritance. It’s described in Ephesians 1:11-12, “In Whom we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things after the counsel of His own will, that we should be to the praise of His glory who first trusted in Christ.” Well, how do you get to be a part of this marvelous inheritance? Well, first of all, you have to know how bankrupt you are. You have to realize that you are without any hope, without any riches if you are without Jesus Christ.

That’s where it starts. I am bankrupt. Secondly, you have to trust the Lord Jesus Christ. In Ephesians 1:12 we read about those who trusted in Christ, putting faith in Him. Now when you put faith in Him, then you obtain an inheritance or this can be translated we have been made an inheritance. I think both are true. We have received an inheritance, and then we become a part of His inheritance. You see the Lord Jesus Christ wrote out His will and He included us. Then He went to the cross and died. A will is no good unless the person who writes it dies. Then He came back to life. He went back to heaven and now He is probating His own will. Nobody can take that away from Him! Today in the Lord Jesus Christ we are an inheritance and we have obtained an inheritance.

Why are we not drawing upon that inheritance? Why do we live lives of bankruptcy when we have the riches of His grace? Why are we so ignorant when we have the riches of His wisdom? He has abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence. Why are we so weak when we have the riches of His glory available to us? Let’s live today as the sons of a wealthy king who has put us into His will.
